Redbud Ride 2013

Saturday, April 13, 2013

Ryan Smith and I drove down to London, Kentucky for the 2013 Redbud Ride, a hilly organized century ride in Eastern Kentucky. After a chilly start, the weather was perfect. I was riding my heavy Cannondale touring bike, so I wasn't able to keep up with Ryan, who's always faster than me in any case.

Pre-ride pancakes. It was chilly!

The theme of the first stop was "80's Prom".

It was still chilly at the first stop ;)

I was surprised to a sign promoting a "Shabbat Service" in the middle of nowhere in Eastern Kentucky.

Another rest stop.

Old and new Cannondales. My red Cannondale T-400 was made in the mid-90s.

As usual at these events, there were a lot of chubby middle aged men in tight Lycra.

The bridge at the foot of the infamous Tussey Hill climb.

Ryan enjoying his Makers Mark '46.

The Tussey climb begins.

Tussey, where many riders did the walk of shame.

The guy on the yellow recumbent certainly picked the wrong bike for this ride.

Another steep climb, late in the ride.
